High Concept, Low Art

A joint effort between BMW and the fabric specialists at Kvadrat and Flos has produced a bizarre monochromatic installation titled “The Dwelling Lab,” the brainchild of design twosome Patricia Urquiola and Guilio Ridolfo. Viewers are inspired to rethink automobile interiors (in this case  a BMW series 5 Grand Turismo) by literally turning them inside out. But it’s hard to get past the shortcomings: a sterile beige palette and the haphazard addition of accessories to protrusive conic forms undermines this design’s otherwise provocative concept. The installation will be on display at the Salone Internationale del Mobile in Milan.
